Our homeschooling family used a Butterfly Garden Kit by Insect Lore to study butterflies’ metamorphosis. The project lasted three weeks and included observation, feeding, and releasing the butterflies. The children completed activities, read related books, and enjoyed the experience. During our unit study on the butterfly life cycle, we created a crafty caterpillar inspired by “The Very Hungry Caterpillar” book. With a template from Fireflies & Mudpies, we used paper, paint, brass fasteners, and pipe cleaners to make posable caterpillars. This activity fosters creativity, fine motor skills, and imaginative storytelling.
